Data tells: Why should BRICS countries cooperate on energy?
It's been a decade since BRICS countries, the world's largest emerging market represented by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, first talked about "energy security" at the 2009 BRICS Summit. Referring to the uninterrupted availability of energy sources at an affordable price, energy security is vital for the socio-economic growth of every country around the world.

Hong Kong
Today's Hong Kong is becoming a site of riots, marked by severe violence against the police, continued paralysis of public facilities and disruptions to everyday life. The turmoil is dealing a heavy blow to the city's pillar sectors. HK residents are at a crossroads: either they denounce violence and restore the rule of law for a rosy future or they yield to violence of the troublemakers whose agenda is to hijack HK for their political gains. It's high time people in HK made a choice.
The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council on Thursday voiced strong indignation and condemnation over the knife attack on a Hong Kong lawmaker, calling for strong punishment against violence in accordance with the law.

China-U.S. trade tensions
The China-U.S. trade ties have been on a rollercoaster since March 23, 2018, when Washington steered the wheel down a slippery slope. It's been a bumpy ride since, with ups and downs in their bilateral relations. After 13 rounds of high-level negotiations, coupled with other coordination mechanisms, everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting for a glimmer of hope. China and the U.S. need to find ways to work together for their own benefit as well as that of the global economy.
Both China and U.S. have had constructive talks during the past two weeks, and decided to roll back tariffs in different phases, said Gao Feng, a spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), in a regular press conference on Thursday.

Rare look into Xinjiang
On China's western frontier, legends shimmer in towns once vital to the ancient Silk Road. From the Taklamakan to the Pamirs, locals tell us stories in a region of unprecedented change. Four thousand kilometers east, a growing number of Uygurs are making their way in Beijing. They are at a crossroads between preserving their heritage and rectifying stereotypes. Follow us to see how Uygurs are faring in their remote hometowns as well as the bustling metropolis.
They are just a small batch of about 8,000 Uygurs living in Beijing, engaged in different professions from law enforcement to information technology. They call themselves "Beijing drifters," like around eight million other non-locals who are pursuing their dreams in the Chinese capital.

I traveled to southern Xinjiang twice this summer, but I would like to learn more about the region's diverse cultures and the people whose lives are so far yet so close to those from the rest of China.
